Here is the deal, I have a 78’ 236 with an 86 Johnson 225 runs awesome. I may have the opportunity to move to a (Not sure of the year) 236 with a full transom and bracket (Factory) and a Yamaha ox66 250. Here is the question. How much better is this boat with a bracket and full transom? My boat really likes the trim tabs; will this thing want to pop a wheelie? Am I going to notice the performance gains of that bracket? The 250 is much newer but my motor is tested and true….

Mac

I am sure you know the older Mako's were very well built. Have you done research on the newer models, since Brunswick took over?

HeadHunt

my new boat has a factory bracket (grady drive as they call it). i really like the extra room the closed transom provides. it's a huge difference. i can't comment on performance, as i would need to run the exact same boat and engine to compare. docking is a bit to get used to having the engine so far back, and you need the extra room since your overall length is increased, but i still like the bracket.

i would go for the newer boat, newer and bigger engine, and bracket.

I know what they did to the new hulls... It is a shame. Just like when Chrysler bought Masariti and *******ized the name by slapping a deal on the LeBaron and called a Masariti (Spelling?).
My hull is a 78 not sure what this other one is yet going to see it tonight.
Mac
