Guys,
I'm putting the MQ11 back together. All went well with the gear case, but when I went to mate the lower unit with the upper, I ran into problems. I made the connection between the linkage and the shift rod, but that's as far as it will go in. The gear shift is in reverse, the linkage is made, as I said, the water tube is in the grommet, but the 2 halves will not come together. Any ideas?

Some motors the driveshaft spline wont go together because of too much grease or oil in the spline keeping the spline from sliding together.

If you can't reach the flywheel, or dont have anyone to help you turn the flywheel, then try this: Install your prop. Then, as you are cursing the lower unit, slightly turn your prop, which will turn your drive shaft; thus, helping to align with the powerhead. Be patient, and be sure to lightly lube the driveshaft before installing.

Worked like a charm! Thanks to all who chimed in.
