We live next to an RV Park and have made freinds with a couple that has a Place there that they visit about once a month! They are older than us but are nice people and we enjoy there company!

They purchased a new fleetwood 24' Park model in 1996, It has never been moved and I built a nice deck on it for them!

Now the problem! They are not there that much, and when they are there they only stay about a week at a time! They ask me to come over about a month ago and said they had a leak and wanted to know if I would look at it and posably repair it for them! (I do a lot of side jobs and thought Id be a nice guy and take a look at it for them)!

Yesterday I moved all the furniture and started taking it apart to find out where it was leaking and I cannot believe what I found!

It had been leaking across the top of the main slideout sence it was new and the entire slideout is rotted away! All the way accross the top and the floor is just hanging there! Its completly shot! To fix it would require replacing the entire slideout! The manufacturer will not warrentee it and they do not make that model anymore so replacing the slideout is out of the question! There is also some rot along the front sliding door and in front of the back door and who knows where else! They paid $16,000 for it in 96 and now it is worthless!

I know, I cant believe they didnt notice it sooner, but they are older and not there that much! Its really a shame! They are checking with there insurance to see if it covers such a thing, but I told them I doubted it would!!

That is sad. If the insurance doesn't cover it maybe they can just have a wall built across where the slide out was. I have a big popup that my wife loves. I would really like to step up to a 26-30 foot slide out but I always wonder about the duribility issues over the long haul.

Yup.. Not uncommon. My 2003 has been at the factory since November getting fixed for slide leaks. If it's out of warranty, you're on your own.. Fleetwoods don't have the best of reputation anyway.. pretty much the Bayliner of RV's. Insurance won't cover it.

-Roger

Man that is too bad. I don't know a lot about RV's except that my friend asked me my opinion before buying his. Made by KIT and I looked at it real close for all the shortcuts used by bayliner in the 80's. And yup they were all there! He got insulted and bought it anyway! The only thing he hasn't had problems with is the slide.

So I guess it will boil down to the question of do they want to sell it later as a RV which will be more expensive to repair properly or fix it in place as a fixed trailer.

Keep us posted LubeDude
BTW on my friends "KIT" the entire floor was made out of chipboard! One little leak over the winter and he feel through it.
