hope someone can help,I have a 1979 searay260,5.7 Mercruiser I/o-raw water cooled. I removed, disasembled, cleaned and inspected exhaust manifolds and elbows. Then ordered complete exhaust gasket kit#MER-27-33395A 2 Gasket Set agmerc from Boatfix inc. The kit does not have the metal plates that have a hole about the size of a pin head should I reuse the ones removed? Or try and find a new set?

Re: manifold gaskets

Use the ones you removed unless they are badly corroded ,which is doubtful because they are stainless steel....J

Re: manifold gaskets

What do these small hole do for cooling flow? I am considering making them larger to help a cooling problem with my engine. My manifolds are running 140 degrees but the engine is at 170.

That's normal, and it's working correctly, don't mess with it.

Re: manifold gaskets

The smalll hole is just an air bleed. If you make it larger you'll change the water flow, and overheat the manifolds. As Don says "don't mess with it!"<br /><br />Chris...............
