1st let me say I appreciate all the help I've been getting from this board with my first attempt to freshen my I/O.

I'm trying to pressure test my manifold and the only leak I get is a small blurp (technical term) of air every 20 seconds from the last exhaust port by the riser.

It was more frequent until I tightened my riser blocking plate as tight as I thought safe. I have a 1/16" gasket between the plate and block.

Do you think the air is getting by the gasket into the exhaust chamber?

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=011013#000000

look at these it shows how the surfaces should look

if you really getting air into the exaust than it is leaking

but if your blocking plate is leaking internaly that could fool you

i would use a new merc riser gasket there only 2.50 :D

are you useing water ? at about 15 PSI if so turn it vertical so it compleatly fills with water

if you surfaces are not flat or rusted were the plate is that can cause just as bad a leak

tommays

Adding some paint thinner or kerosene to the water jacket prior to pressurizng helps to determine if and where there is a leak.

tommays - I do have the intake and exhuast full of water and it maintains it's level. My manifold surface doesn't look like the one in the picture, I'll clean it up and pick up a gasket on Monday.
I'm hoping it's a blocking plate issue.

kagee - I'll try the paint thinner thing.

thanks guys

Re: manifold leak maybe ??

Thanks Guys. I cleaned up the manifold, bought a gasket and now no air is getting into either manifold. It looks like the blocking plate was leaking. Also, no water/mineral oil leaks out of the manifolds.

thanks again
