Silly question, How would I know if I have a manifold leak?
I live in Las Vegas and did not winterize my boat. In fact, I haven't run my boat for the last two years. (work too much) It did not get too cold or stay below freezing for more than the night. My boat runs fine. There is a significant amount of black soot coming out with the exhaust and water. Could this indicate a problem? Oil is new and clean.:(

Sounds like a choke adjustment is in order.

Note: Fuel is two years old as well. Smells like gas, no foul or rancid smell. My local Off Shore Marine supply store recommended and sold me octane booster and synthetic injector cleaner, Its now in the boat.

Ayuh,... After it was shut-down,+ left to sit,..
The water would flood the cylinders on that side...
If you restarted it, it could Hydro-lock, if the cylinder was still full of water..

While Running, there's rarely a sign of it...

Re: Manifold Leak

So, the black soot would not be an indication. My original thought was simply bad/poor gas. Engine runs good. But, reading through the forum and having not winterized the boat, want to be certain.

But, to be certain, I just need to pull a plug or two... Right?:p

Re: Manifold Leak

Is this happening just at startup? If so, give the engine time to warm up and check that the choke fully opens. Then take a look and see if you still have the smoke.

Boat is in the driveway, I did not see the smoke, I only noticed the black soot in the exhaust water running down the driveway. I did let the engine warm up, but did not take it above an idle.

Re: Manifold Leak

If it aint broke, don't fix it

Winterizing is a great idea at the end of each season to keep it from breaking

See if you can put some or most of the gas in your car.

Add new gas to make the 2 year old gas only half bad

Re: Manifold Leak

I tried siphoning the gas out through the fuel line, but would not work. It must have and anti-siphoning valve. I did not want to start pulling things off the fuel tank for fear of creating a bigger problem. I'm thinking... the local boat expert says this will work, this should be the easy solution. He also suggested adding good gas to make it only half bad as well. Unless someone here has better advice (these guys know boats/engines) than the local guy (sells stuff for profit), any good advice is welcome.:)
