I have a 5.7 carb'd Merc, serial# 0M009325 that the previous owner claimed was freshwater only. Did not know the age, or how many hours on it.

I've run it for 4 seasons in saltwater, and wanted to know your opinions on the risers and manifolds - they look almost new to me, but I don't know much.

The image labeled "2" was taken after 2 seasons in the salt, and the ones labeled "4" were after a total of 4 salty seasons. I average about 15-20 trips per season.

It must have been a freshwater boat with no build up of scale like that. I boat only in fresh and thats what my manifolds look like.
i would run a file over the surfaces so check them for flatness and reassemble with good gaskets like oem merc or Barr

They look good. The most I've gotten out of a set of manifolds in salt water was about 14 years. :D

Thanks everyone. I already put it back together (with new oem gasket). Will probably continue to check every 2-3 years, and dress with a flat file.
