Hello, I have a 5.7 GM vortec motor attached to a volvo 290 outdrive. I had replaced the starboard side manifold and riser because it was allowing water into the motor. I had both sides presure tested and the port side passed so I kept it and reinstalled it. 14 hours later it is (port side) leaking so I am now installing new manifold and riser on that side. I have fresh water to motor with a heat exchanger. In removing the riser there is a metal spacer that blocks all water from the sides. Then the gasket goes on the manifold. Is this the way it should be set up. I have a raw water that goes to the riser and must exit through the exhaust Then I have a raw water that enters the manifold and a fresh water that enters the manifold on the other end. I know if I order a gasket they ask if it is fresh or raw water cooled. The gasket seem to block off different ports if that is the case. Am I correct?

Brings a whole to meaning to the word "Hosed", because you have hoses going to places Volvo doesn't put them.

Pictures, and numbers as Bond-o mentioned are mandatory at this point.

Heres some pics. To the best of my knowledge all this was installed as factory for the heat exchanger. Hope these pics help

Ayuh,.... Ya need the blocking plates,... yer manifolds are antifreeze cooled...

Volvo never used that setup, curious what type thermostat housing you have. You have to have a different one for closed cooled, along with the blocking plates Volvo doesn't make.

And my risers are raw water cooled. I have a block off plate (metal)and a gasket also to separate the manifold from the riser. Do I need the gasket or will the plate be enough?

The gaskets are needed, one on each side of the plate.
