[2000 Elisa's Ring SR 24]

After engine runs for 10 - 20 seconds, steam comes from the area of where the manifold connects to the engine block. Is this normal? I am also losing antifreeze at a slow pace under pressure. The system is closed on 454 big blocks.

They usually steam a little bit when first started when there is condensation on them. Are the manifolds cooled with antifreeze? Are we talking Merc or Volvo here, and what is the model number and year?

and if its late model a seriel number wont hurt as some models had a two part manifold and were aluminium.<br /> the water jacket bolts to the lower edge of the manifold and has 4 orings.<br /> i just redid a pair with that crazy setup, aluminium exaust manifolds and salt water cooling. what a deal.<br />at least they were not so heavy

they are 1992 merc blue water 454's on a 37' sea ray express, manifolds are cooled with antifreeze. Manifolds and risers are cast iron (OSCO manifold, Merc riser). I was going to replace all the gaskets (even though this was done last summer) again to see if they weren't put on properly.

About the only thing you can do for your leak, is to get a radiator pressure tester and hook it to the heat exchanger, pump it up to about 20 psi and look for leaks.<br />If none found, drain the cooling system and repeat the test. Listen in the exhaust for leaks also. <br />There is also a block tester you can use (Napa sells one) To test the coolant for exhaust gasses. Do that BEFORE you drain the coolant.

The engine is not over heating, temperature is actually at normal operating range, actually on both engines. With your case wouldn't the engine be overheating?

You've got a Cooling System Leak........Atleast that's what you've Said.........<br /><br />If you Don't Find it,+ Fix it,.......<br />It'll just get Worse,..... Til it Does Overheat............
