I'm in search of a mercruiser manual for 1970 pre alpha 165 I found a #14 MC alpha generation 2 would this cover mine or what # should i look for? thankyou

ya need service manual #1... C-90-68648.... the one i have came in two volumes.... ya need both.

my guess would be that #14 coverin gen 2s would not be applicable to our 1 drives..... #6 would be closer as it covers alpha1s..... but #1 is correct.....

yes, vol. 2 of service manual #1 covers the drive.........

Are you talking about vol 2 of manual #1 or are you talking about manual #2? There's a big difference.

i don't know what service manual that's from sns.... i got no hits on google either.... but i'd be carefull and find out exactly what that service manual is for.... it may or may not be applicble to yer 1970 drive.... i don't know..... i still think ya need #1, C-90-68648....

Bottom right of the front cover will be a part number.... What is it? I can't read it on that photo...

OK.. I'm blind too....

That number is the early number for manual #2... Sorry sns, it's the wrong one....

The right book(s) 90-68648, are still available from

"http://www.mercruiserparts.com/partsByNumber.asp"

It's not cheap... $68, but cheaper than screwing up a new set of gears

I dont know what that was all about Jason??? Anyway i paid 30.00 for it. It should be of some help, no? Whats it have the wrong specs in it? oh well it will be here in a day or so i'll check it out and search for a Vol.2 90-68648 or maybe someone would trade me. Thanks for the info guys.

How about a volume 2 # C-90-71707 1974-78 It's a few years newer but should cover the same stuff no?

nope, ya need C-90-68648. according to achris. ya have vol. 2 of that(C-90-71707) service manaul. it's just the old part number... perhaps why i couldn't goolgle it..... i use the service manual C-90-71707, but mine is a 75, yours is a 70........ they are not the same books, so i would assume there's diffeneces between the two. what differences i don't know.....

one more note. this vol. 1 and vol. 2 carp i don't understand myself. but it seems that some of them come in 2 vol.s and some come as a whole service manaul. both applicable to service manual #1 and #2..... ie. my service manual #1, i have two vol.s. my serivce manual #2 its all in one book..... yet, you have a vol. 2 of service manual #2, appentley an old part number of it.... see what i mean... odd....
