I have a 1989 6hp. Ran good shut down and when tried to start could not pull handle out it was locked up. so when I got home I looked every thing seemed normal,but could not pull rope only about 1 in. looked at parts break down on internet, every thing ok. after trying several things thru elimination finally took cam follower and lever off..Starter rope behaves normally.if you look at parts diagram you can see what I am talking about.Cam follower seems to be locking on cam, I am baffled what am I missing? Can these items be left off?

The purpose of that thing is to prevent starting the motor at fast throttle settings. So, can we think you have the throttle too far toward "Fast"?
Sorry, I cannot advise leaving a safety device off.

that was the problem I got ate up by the stupids thanks greatly/
