Manual tilt & trim--how do I do it

I've read some posts about t&t back into 2003, and I have the Selco manual for my engine. But I'm still stumped.

I have a 1984 Evinrude 155 hp. It's on a boat I just bought a week ago, and I haven't been able to get to the lake yet.

The engine is tilted up for trailering, but I want to lower it since we are getting so much rain/snow. There is no battery in the boat, but I pulled the locking pin and loosened the screw on the starboard side of the t&t unit. I expected the engine to drop, but nothing happened. I pushed on it a little, but with lots of caution.

How do I lower the engine manually? I appreciate all your experience and help.

there should be a manual release valve down toward the bottom of the starboard side mounting bracket...its #66 on the diagram

make sure you are not under the motor when you turn this screw because the motor will drop FAST........and dont turn the screw out but 1-1.5 turns or you could damage the threads due to a keeper inside.

Thanks for the diagrams, David R. I did loosen that screw, but nothing happened.

Did you lift the motor and release the trail locks?

I did not lift the motor. I didn't know about that; missed it if it's in the Selco manual. Should I life the motor before I loosen the manual valve screw? I'll give it a try this afternoon. Thanks~

The motor should be supported by trail locks, (steel bars on each side). You have to lift the outboard slightly to swing them back or the motor cannot come down.

Thanks, Zeke. I wasn't sure what you were talking about, but I removed the locking pin, lifted the motor, and looked to see what moved. Sure enough, I found the trail lock and pushed it back, slowly loosened the screw, and the motor moved right down.

Thanks a lot~
