Manual trim relief valve, is there a way to move in trim range?

My manual says that I can’t lower the engine in to the trim range by opening the manual relief valve. Is there a “Get-er done” method? Can I just drain the fluid out and lower it? I moved the motor up to check the prop and as I lowered it the trim pins popped up. It’s looking like the trim and tilt unit is going in to the trashcan, so any other ideas than an angle grinder would be helpful.

1986 225hp
Mac

best bet to repair trim so it functions properly
trim unit has impact protection built in draining oil would eliminate this feature (i am also unsre if this would bring moter down) whats wrong with your trim?

Motor has rusted in to a clump of dust.
I am going to pull the boat out next weekend and see if I can get the motor off without breaking the bolts but I am not very hopefull. Folks I have spoken with have said that if it dosen't come out clean the best option is to pick up a complete unit used.

Mac
