Manual Trim

I have purchased a Johnson 5.5 hp and have placed on a 12' v-hull boat. I noticed the motor has a trim adjustment (manual). There is a bar you move to 4 different settings, I would like to know what the performance difference would be from the 1st setting to the 4th. Thank you

Try it an see. You definitely will not want the pin all the way up as that would cause the bow to rise way too much. Nor do you likely want it all the way down. Very likely the pin would be best in the second hole from the bottom for all around use. But as I said -- try it and see. It takes about a minute to change positions.

Ive been told as a general rule of thumb you want the centerline of the prop as close to level with the bottom of the hull so it is not pushing you up or down. Don't know if that's actually true or not but like silver tip said it only takes a min to change so give me all a try and see what works best on your setup.

I think you want the centreline of the propshaft parallel to the water surface when you're running at your normal cruise speed to push the back of the boat forward instead of up or down.
Now where can I get a nice level meter & sender for the right price?
