I need to replace the winch on my trailer. The old one was an electric model and it no longer works. I am going to replace it with a manual model but I have been unable to find what size winch would work. The capacity plate on the trailer has worn away. I am trying to see if I can get another one from Ez Loader.

The boat I bought was on this trailer. It is a 21' Cruisers Rogue. Their website says it weighs around 3400lbs dry. This trailer only has one axle and the rims are 5 lug. I don't think it was the proper trailer for my boat.

Anyways any thoughts on what size winch I would need for this trailer so I can sell it? It seems like I might know better if I can get the capacity plate from Ez Loader.

Your thoughts and ideas are appreciated.

Re: Manual winch size needed?

Ok so you will not be using this winch with your boat?

Remember you won't be dead lifting a boat so the winch rating does not need to be anywhere near the weight of the boat. What I would put on that trailer would be the largest winch you can get BEFORE they start being dual-drive (gear reduction). Should be somewhere around 1400-1500lb.

For your boat on an appropriate trailer though, I'd get something dual drive closer to 2000lb capacity to make winching easier.

Ayuh,... There should be a capacity stamped on the ole broken winch,...

Get a manual winch in the Same capacity....
