So, how do I tell which Manual I need?

Looking for serial numbers won't work as the boat is about 175 miles away buried in snow and waiting for spring.

To the best of my knowledge it is a 1978 Lund with a 165 Mercruiser inline 6.

Edit - a bit of looking on iboats tells me it is likely a 1977 Tyee Offshore BR based upon the fact that the model does not appear in the list for 1978

Re: Manual?

The best way, is to ask, as you did.
In some cases year of the boat will work. Boat year is not a good indication of engine year. Boat builders do not make engines and outdrives, they buy them from companies that do. Years of the boat, are not always the year of the engine and drive package.
Your boat being a 78 could be either manual 3 for 78 to 82 or manual #2 for 74 to 77. At that point, you need a serial number to determine which manual.
If you can't find a serial number, then you search for differences by looking at all the parts and all the service and parts manuals to find the differences.
