Read in Manuel that electric primer pump is necessary for larger motors like the 175 rather than primer bulb.. It's a 1987 johnson 175. Vro removed. I really don't wanna use electric pump. Is a nice quality primer bulb ok to run? Believe looked at silver star 5/16 and/ or 3/8 one.

It's "manual".... I'd like to see who wrote that manual as electric fuel pumps are a frowned upon when it comes to outboard engines.

The primer bulb is used just for that... priming and filling the carburetors, fuel lines, fuel pump, etc before starting the engine.

If the VRO has been removed, install the standard fuel pumps (normally two in series on a V6 or V8). Another member will need to advise you on the proper pump(s). The alternative is to install a new VRO.

The only place OMC ever used an electric primer pump was on the big V-8's. It had a toggle switch that you would have to HOLD to activate it and it was for priming only. NOT running.
