Chase, you're an animal brother! A solo flip, I'd say the average 20 yr old couldn't pull it off. You're flying on that restore, I love it. The way I figure it a few us will finish about the same time. Then what the heck am I gonna' do at work all day?? Work???!!!

Haha...funny thing is that some of my buddies call me Hoss. I sometimes get confused reading your thread when I see the name. As for 20yr. olds; I work in a high school and the boys these days are soft. And I hear ya about work...I leave one window up with about 6-8 tabs that are all iboats resto threads. I tend to get a bit obsessed after jumping into a project....I bought the boat with intentions of fishing---6 weeks ago.

^^^^^X3....I should just burn the rest of my vacation time and finish the boat. I got so wound up seeing all the good progress you guys are making that I went home and started stripping paint like a banshee! I was late for supper.

Using a personal day Friday to work on boat. After next Friday, school will be out for the summer and will leave me with just my seasonal job...and more resto time;)

Great idea you just gave me... I'll just request a 3 month leave of absents. Or maybe they will let me "work" from home.:D

After I watch Deadliest Catch I get a strong hankering for a seafood meal and a boat ride.

Forgot to add this pic. Both outside keels were barely leaking at the back transom area. After the flip, I taped them up and mixed a small amount of gluvit to try and fill them in. Just need to trim the excess that is left over.

My cousin called me Saturday from the donor boat I sold his friend. They slapped the 35 on it and were fishing...laughing at me for working on the resto.

I can't wait to catch my first bass from this rig...keeps me going when I imagine reaching down out of this boat and lipping that first bucket mouth. Serenity now....(exhale.)

Had to watch the kids last night...wife works 1 night a week; no way was I going to try painting with the three of them. Busted out some tools and put them to work stripping the trailer down and prepping for paint.

Got a bit done and shot it with a light coat of rattle can primer. Was not planning to do this work last night. Had to do something though. Gonna try to paint this evening.

Re: Margret Jaine the 78 Starcraft SS Resto

Doh! Started painting the bottom last night. I was using a marine paint by Rustoleom from Lowes. Very limited selection of color. I picked up Oyster White...it looks like Almond...:eek:Balls!

Of course the wife tells me that oyster is off white and is a blah, blahhh, something...like I know, I don't eat oysters.

I mixed in some hardener and just finished the bottom up anyways.

Can't walk past it without puking in my mouth. So, I taped up my blue lines and will get it ready to do it with the sprayer next....using the whitest white I can find today. I'm off tomorrow and I hope the rain cooperates.

Still need to mask off the blue but the lines are done. You know, I really like the green color of the tape and how it matches up with the blue....wish I could paint a green outline around the blue.

Looking better now! Got some semi gloss white by Rusto:cool: Came straight home after work and finished masking off the blue. Shot it and then shot trailer too. It was 9pm and pics were awful. Chance of rain, so back into the garage she goes.

Need another quart to do another coat or few. Mamma came out at 10pm. She is feeling neglected:redface: Have to add her to my "To Do List":p Looks like the next item on that list is another drink. Good night.

Finished 2nd coat of white and it is really looking nice. The gun was gumming up today; not sure if it was heat and humidity or the hardener....of course, I did not thin it as much this time either.

I will look in the morning and decide if I want a third coat but, I think I'm done with the white. Plus, I can't wait to pull the tape and paper off.

Question I have for everyone:
How long do I wait to put it back on the trailer? I did use hardener.

Looks real nice, great job. I waited a week to put mine back on the trailer, but even after two weeks you can still smell the paint curing and I used hardner as well, they say that Rusto takes a long time to cure completley.

Looks good man. I wasn't planning on adding hardener but I think I might now. That paint job looks great. You guys got this part down I'm more like a 3yr old with a new box of crayons.

Thanks dozer; waiting is the hard part...I am tempted to pull tape now...will try to wait till tomorrow.

Bighoss-
The actual painting is not bad; it's all the dang prep, tape and masking. I tore off a lot of pieces of tape between the blue then the white masking jobs.

Then there is the clean up after each coat. I should be painting the consoles right now. Instead, I jumped on the bike and did a "lake run" along Lake Ontario. So much cooler down there. It was refreshing and dried out the belly sweat mark on my tee.

That white is looking good CP, glad you are making sure to get it right the first time. No regrets.:)

I know what you mean about the big lakes being great motivation. Seeing lots of water, sunshine, and other boats gets me back to work.:D

BTW I lived in Liverpool and Ithaca for a little while, great area over there and tons of lakes.

Keep up the great work!:)

I love the Finger Lakes region. Use to live on Honeoye lake and before moving here I was near Canandaigua lake. Spent summers on Cayuga Lake near Seneca Falls. In-laws have rented a place on Oneida for summer vacation next month...want to bring the boat.

Oh yeah, could not wait.

Re: Margret Jaine the 78 Starcraft SS Resto

Today I did some trim on the trailer; painting the fenders blue, painted the consoles and bow piece too. Then tonight I wired up the led trailer lights. Still have to tuck and wrap some excess wire but, they are all connected. I soldered the connections.

All so sanded and power washed my teak ski hatch. Will put some teak oil on it tomorrow.

I rattle canned the fenders with some Rusto enamel I had. Rims look $h!tty. Oh well, will replace them at a later date.

Holy crap!!! That paint job looks great! That's it I'm not posting anymore pics displaying my painting skills. I can gaurantee nobody will be looking at your rims on that outfit. Nice job. It's exactly 6 hrs and 49 minutes to Sylvania Oh.... I looked it up. Speed if you have to....I'll have the path cleared.

Just get some tire/wheel combos from Eastern Marine. Very reasonable and zero work.
