Hello all, I am in the process of equipping my new boat with all the goodies. I had a plug hard wired when the boat was getting built for my Terrova 80 trolling motor. The receptacle is mounted and the wiring is there. The only problem is the male plug-in is a 3 prong Marinco plug and it was in the glove box of the boat with NO instructions.

I took the rubber top off of it to see where my positive wire and negative wire from my trolling motor goes. There are 3 holes and they are numbered 1,2,3, with no indicitation of positive or negative. Do any of you know what numbered hole I need to put the positive wire and negative wire in so I don't blow up my trolling motor? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. John

Marinco What??? Got a part number? Or better yet a picture. Look at the back of the receptacle. Red is +24 volts and black is ground. Hook the troller wires (red and black) to the two terminals on the PLUG that match the red and black terminals on the receptacle. Done. Go fishing.

Re: Marinco plug, where does Positive go???

Hey silvertip, thanks for the response. The plug looks identical to the Marinco DC connect pro 3-wire charging/trolling system that is listed in the iboats marine store. Part #12vcp6. I thought it was odd that the back fo the plug didn't have a postive or negative sign on it. It has jsut 3 numbers. I'll check the back of the receptacle in the morning and see if the back of it is numbered like the plug is and then see what wires go into what. I'm assuming that this set up is for a 24 volt system????? John

The numbers and positive/negative have no relationship to each other. Electricity doesn't care what the number is. Two terminals are needed on the plug and receptacle. It doesn't matter if red is on 1 and black is on 2, or red is on 3 and black on 2 etc. The only thing you need to make sure of is that the plug and receptacle are wired the same and you can tell that by looking at the back of the receptacle.

Thanks silvertip, took the back off this morning and saw which goes to which. Went very easy after that. My new boat will be on the water for the first time tomorrow. Thanks again for the help silvertip. John
