Marine 20hp outboard... No spark

Good day guys.


I need to ask a favour, i got boat with 20hp marine outboard motor, the seller told me that few days back he had hand on the motor and rod, suddenly he got shocked, after he tried to start the motor, its not starting. He told me his mechanic told him that he has to replace stator. My question is how to test it and/or can i rest something so motor start. Any help would really appreciate.

Your Mariner outboard has no spark?

did you check it or you are going by what someone else said?

Have you looked for any burnt or wires etc that maybe shorting out somewhere?

It's electric start?

No didn't check. I am going by his statement, secondly its electric start. Dont know how to check, i am not too technical, if i get your help, may be figur this out
