Ok guys I have a mercruiser 165hp chevy 250 motor that has a number of cracks(more than toes and fingers) in the block. Can I use a regular automotive block? What else if anything can I use? Whats the differance in gaskets, I understand stuff like exaust gaskets but what about others like head gaskets,pan, valve cover? I know the block could be welded and I know cylinders can be sleeved but there is already about 16 inches of bad weld. Oh ya you can weld blocks but you have to be really freaking.

There is a difference in some of the 250 blocks with the engine mounting bosses on the lower right front of the block. Some don't have the hole you need to mount the support bracket. If you get one look before you buy. Use your cam and a marine gasket set. Be sure to use all the marine accessories, alternator, starter, distributer, carb. These parts are marine specific to keep explosions from occuring.

Your Best chances of finding a Block with the motor mount Bosses is with a Truck Block,......
Of the correct Vintage.....
