Re: Marine Dealership

Well I guess with those words, I would have to agree with BrettNc.. I did my share of joking around on the forum, but I thought that is what DockChat was all about...
The guy sounded pretty sensere on his question it was just on how it was procieved by others, that is all.. It just strikes people in other ways I guess..
Maybe someone should of pointed him to another forum that this could be address without so much criticism..

Re: Marine Dealership

Maybe I have seen too much trash and suffering in my lifetime, but he had too many cues that made me question his intentions.

First looking for 2 people with marine experience. That means he doesn't want to run it, or knows nothing at all. Second he wants another person with experience (management), How many chiefs and how many indians he after?

Then he says someone to "partner". Nobody in the business world would "partner" off a chatroom at random.

Now look, somewhere in Florida depends on marketing feedback? He hit the Florida coast to make people think warm weather, water, boats, tourists. But threw in the marketing feedback to make it sound legit. What is marketing feedback?

Then he pressed too much to say favors returned, saying he was honest and a man of his word. He was lying!!! Then later to throw in a marine referance to his name. Come on!

Anyone seriuous and honest will not look at random for "partners", will have at least a general area smaller than a state.

Maybe I am too cynical, but maybe not.

If I had a bundle of money and a dream, but not the experience to make it happen on my own.I would look for connections and management people to help me realize my dream. It is a smart man who can see his weak points and finds ways to work around them.
I wish you god speed on your enterprise,Popeye752

DD, my sentiments exactly. There was a lot of clues there. He was obviously trying to gain trust right off the bat. Anyone who says "my word is good" in the first intro is looking for a sucker. Maybe I'm cynical, but that had scam written all over it!

Re: Marine Dealership

The biggest flag to me I guess was he spent a lot of time saying how trustworthy he was, but no time at all explaining what he was looking for except the best in the industry. If he was truely looking to start a business and learn from it, then more power to him! But why not tell more about himself or his idea than just looking for 2 people? Maybe start with a short biography or something, then a vague idea of his business? He is not selling something unheard of, so there is no need for secrets. Also what marketing feedback? Did he hire a consultant to test the market? If so that is a very smart move, but nothing to keep secret.

Finally, if I were to start a business, I wouldn't jump on a forum online and "network". I would maybe come on here and check people out a little. Even have the marketing consultant help find the people he is seeking. If he is shopping around different forums that is creative, but why just find 2 people then?

As a con he is trying to add a sense of urgency to the plot. Hurry and get on board before the chance is gone, hurry and get on board to "realize your full potential". That even is a common ploy to get people to go with a con. Almost everyone if asked and if given a chance to really seriously think about it will say they don't feel that they are working to their full potential. By stating it that way it is dangling bait.

Internet forums are a good place to prey on people. Most of the forums online are people with depression issues, easily swayed, and looking for the greener side of the fence. This forum is not that way, but check most chat rooms and you will find this is true. By going to a boating forum, and throwing an idea of working for a marina or maybe running or owning a marina there is a shot at finding that one sucker.

But then again, maybe he is serious and honest and just playing outside of the so called box. I have to say I was impressed when I asked what he wanted, he did not want investors. On his reply he said the money was there, and the land aquisition was in progress? Thought he had no idea where yet. He just wanted good people to staff the business basically. Well then why not say that openly, looking to hire some good people? Too vague for my blood. I may have just let a million go by, but not the first and not the last.

Someone should E-mail and find the particulars.

Re: Marine Dealership

In case you are interested luckyjim he left you his email. This is not the place to recruit partners in case you haven't noticed. There's way too many red flags in his original post to make him credible. Someone in his proclaimed position would not make such a post. If you want to find out what he's all about email him and have him send you tickets to Florida to show you his plan. ;)

Re: Marine Dealership

wellllllll.....to many forums seem to become mama hen type **** where turf wars are originated. This member may be legit, or not. Seems to me that the good old boys as well as the newbie prospects bit the person. jus my opinion. Could be that the "judgmental membership" should have allowed the Moderators or the actual Owner of the Iboats Web Forums sort this out.

Exactly, pjc. It's presumptive of those that are not moderators to attempt to moderate. Too many Barney's and not enough Andy's, with a few Opie's thrown in.

Re: Marine Dealership

I did not see any where in his post that he wanted some one to send him a check or CC number he simply made a request for some one who has veteran experience in the Marine Dealership environment and management experience. I still think that some of you jumped him for no reason

Popeye,

It has always been mine and my brothers dream to do just that.

However, we want to run our own show. And, we will.

Me, running fixed op's (service/parts/owned operations) and brother running sales op's.

I know what it takes to run a succesful operation. That being, fixed op's supporting a sales operation.

Good luck, finding a "quality" OPERATOR.

By the way, you're on the "edge" regarding solicitations, on this board.
