COULD YOU EXPLAIN THIS.My motor has two marks on the flywheel. The first one is 0 and the next one is 36. There is a small plate on the front of my motor with lines saying -4 and then +2. Could someone please tell me briefly how to set the timing?

Re: MARINE DOCTOR

The 0 us used to set the flywheel to match TDC with the pointer when installing the belt and Distributor.

The 36 is what the is the reference mark to set the timing.

Timing is done static, not running the engine.

Hook up a spark plug grounding lead into #1 sparkie boot and set it to be 1/2 in from the block.

Turn the flywheel so that the 36 aligns with the -4 this will set it to 32 deg...but we want 30 so you will have to go a little further.

Advance the throttle to WOT in gear.

Turn the ign to ON.

The set screw to move the dist is right below the flywheel. You will need a 7/16 and a flathead screw driver. Turn this until you get a snap or a constant spark. You will know what I mean when it happens.

TMD
