I am going to make a new duck blind for my boat this summer..

I am getting a heavy duty sewing machine as well for this and other projects.

i also need to make a mooring cover for my Gf's bayliner, and a bimini top for my boat as well.

I had been looking spicifcally for cotton duck fabric....but i have had a previous blind custom made from sunbrella... it was exspnsive and that guy is retired now.

what other materials are good tough fabrics for cold weather use that wont shrink or be effected too much by the cold shrinkage...

water REPELLANT would be a plus...

also can anyone suggest a discouted source.

I have a few...but I think id like to pick a few brains before i purchase my fabric..

I want to use the awning rail and welting for attachment on the side of the hull and probably snaps up on the top side .

Id like to keep the price under $10 a yard for stuff under 60" wide..

for my main project i dont need widths more than 36"- 40" I bet, and i dont want to waste a lot of material...

so id consider widths around 80"-100"

thanks

I've ordered from there as well. They have great prices for clearance stuff, too.

You just have to find out the shipping charges ahead of time. Very random with what they charge sometimes.

Two fabrics I've been using lately for covers are:

SurLast by Glen Raven Mills (same co. that makes Sunbrella). It is a 100% polyester with a visible water resistant polyurethane coating on the bottom. Comes in 60" width in a 300 denier (6oz/sqyd) or a 600 denier (7oz/sqyd). Even my regular-duty home sewing machine can easily sew 6 layers (8 layers with difficulty) of the 7oz stuff with V92 thread and a #20 needle. This stuff feels kind of like school backpack material. I use it for covers that may not see sun all the time, and that I want to last maybe 5 years (for example, for my covered back patio pingpong table).

WeatherMax 80 by Safety Components Fabric Technologies, also in a 60" width. It is also 100% polyester, but it has a (trademarked) "HydroMax" coating which is not really visible/"feelable"...and also will not abrade off like a polyurethane layer can. It feels like a lighter-weight Sunbrella, but does not stretch or sag, and is very water repellent. It is hella cheaper than water-resistant Sunbrella Plus, as well as being considerably lighter weight and easier to work with. My home machine can do 4 layers of this easily. WM80 is also heat-sealable (including, to finish cut edges). I use this for covers I want to last 10+ years in direct sun (like boat covers).

I know rochfordsupply carries SurLast. As said, check their clearance items.

Here is a source for WeatherMax80 (they also give free samples):

Although I have been buying recently from a guy on EBAY in S Carolina who sells both these materials for about $10-12/yd shipped:
