Oh god here we go again with the oil threads :)

Some people will tell you that your boat will blow up and the rapture will start if you use anything else besides marine grade oil, some people say that the use what ever is on sale and it works just fine. I use Mobil one 15-40. If I can't find it I look for anything xx-40

Probably not,

But to be fair, to get all the info without any opinions added, read the following info and you can probably make up your own mind.

Certification - FC-W

http://www.nmma.org/assets/cabinets...Certification Procedure Manual (9 06) (2).pdf

After studying the above info, It appears that an FC-W type oil might be best if you operate in a salt water environment and leave your boat in the water for long periods of time.

Most of us do not use an NMMA FC-W type oil.

Just about every oil has been tried in sterndrive engines successfully.
