I am looking at the 06 Sea Ray 185 Sport. I want the boat in black, with the wakeboard tower.

I went to Marine Max last Monday and looked at the boats. It was my first time to actually look at one seriously. I went back in there today after doing some research on the internet. The MSRP on the boat is near $30K. Marine Max has the boats discounted about $7 - $8K and say that there is no more room to work.

I'm confused because I can understand the boat is discounted already, but to me thats just a "discount". I would think there is a little more money to work with in them.

The boat should drive out around $24500 from what he told me and that is including 8 life jackets, bumpers, and all the stuff that is required to hit the water legally. Does that sound like a deal, or an average deal? Before taxes it was around $22,996 if I remember right. Please help me on this, I'm chomping at the bit to get one, but dont want to mess up.

My second question is should I go with a very lightly used 05 185 sport for $17995 w/no tower or a new 06 for the other price. $17,9 is not drive out. That is the asking price.

Thank you in advance for all of your help

I dont know anything about Marine Max and little about the boat your looking at. I can say if you have shopped around a bit and know what your looking for you should have a good feel for the price. If you buy new your boat will be priced comparitively to the used one you looked at in a year. Boats like cars drop value fast in the first year. I personaly like to buy new. I also like to check around and find out from locals about local dealers to see if they have a good service reputation. Call the Better Business Bereau and see what they can tell yoou about the dealer. Searay makes a nice boat and I would buy just what im looking for and settle on nothing less.

You didn't mention whether the 2006 and 2005 came with the 3.0 or 4.3 engine or if the price included bow cover and cockpit cover. The engine size alone can affect the price. I was in a very similar situation last October with Marine Max. They had a brokerage boat (selling a boat for the owner) 2005 Sea Ray 185, 4.3 engine (ONLY 17 HOURS), all canvas including a full boat cover, coast guard package asking price $19,500. My other option was a 2006 with all those same options for the about 25K out the door. I offered $18K for the 2005 and the owners excepted. So Out the door was 18k plus tax. So now I have an almost new boat for 6k less then the new one. The first owner took the big hit on depreciation. Of course I had to settle with the color (blue) but that to me was a small sacrifice. Just make sure you're happy with whatever you decide because you don't want any regrets later. I like the Marine Max here in Cocoa, FL. A much smaller dealer in Orlando wanted asking price of $25K for a very similar used SeaRay 185 with same equipment I got. Good luck!!
