Not sure where to post this, but I'm looking for a Marine Mechanic that can work on my 1970 Merc 500 in the Greater Toronto Area.... i'm in Mississauga.
Anyone have any recommendations?

What is the issue with the motor ?---What trouble shooting has been done if any ??---Is there spark that will jump a gap of 3/8" on all leads ?---I am well aware of the fact that many shops do not work on older motors due to the fact they are busy with modern motors.------Often folks with older motors complain at the thought of $100+ / hr.------How far are you willing to travel ?-----I might be at an old motor meet just east of the 400 at Newmarket this Saturday.-----And HOW SOON would you want this looked at and fixed ?

The Georgetown guy on Kijiji wont work on Mercury's older than 1985. Need carbs rebuilt and lower gear seals replaced. Looking to get it running ASAP, I can travel if necessary.

Sorry,-----I do not do the ASAP work any more especially in the spring for work that should have been done over the winter-----Visit any one of the dealers in the GTA area.----Tell them you have cash and want the motor repaired !----What trouble shooting was done if any ?.-------What is the motor doing / not doing ?----How long have you owned it ?-----What condition is the wiring in ?----Is there spark ?

If the carb floats float then they're ok; pump gas into the carbs and see if you can shut off the flow by pushing on the float levers; if you can then the needle and seats are ok. All you have to do is set the float levers:

A marina should replace the LU seals as this is easy all you really need is the Mercury bearing carrier tool. Maybe if you took the LU off and took it to a marina like Central Outboard they would do it.
