Re: Marine plywood vs regular plywood question

Yep, pretty small project that will have vinyl back on the outside (the original is actually in great shape). Inside the motor cover now looks like it does have a little glass in it, but perhaps straight resin (will look again when home). Here's a photo of the cover. Pretty small project - just want to make sure I use the correct components so I'm not repeating it any time soon.

Ooh, that does have some big round bends in it. Were you planning to bend plywood? If so, you may need higher quality stuff than what I recommended.

No problem on the bends. There are actually molded corner pieces that the sides all screw to, so all boards are completely flat - front, 2 sides, top, and cushion bottom.

Cool, should be good to go with exterior sheating plywood.

I'd think you don't need mat or cloth for that project, just resin. And I'd estimate 1.5 to 2 oz of resin per square foot of surface per layer of resin, and I'd go two layers. Two quarts total should do inside and out on your 3-sided 12"x30" box.

In my experience, epoxy resin is easier to work with, more water-resistant, and for a project that small won't cost you that much more than poly. You can also mix some silica (like CaboSil) or even sawdust into epoxy resin to thicken up and fill edge voids and knots.
