Hi folks,
I need to seal painted wood (epoxy paint) to soft plastic ( I presume PVC) under water ( transom extension on inflatable boat)
What sealant would be recommended for this ?
Something like 3M 4200 or 5200 ?

Thanks

Looks like you're on it. 3M5200 will do the trick. As a side note, I was really surprised to find it in caulking tubes for 10 bucks apiece at my local Home Depot. I stocked up, and have been going around sticking things together willy-nilly. The dog's just madder than all get-out about her paws.

Email me if you can't get it. I'll send you some...dog not included.

I found some at WallyWorld (Walmart) in their marine supplies section for about $8 or so.

Once the long cold winter has passed I will be using 5200 to do pretty much the same thing you are describing to my rubber duckie too.

I checked about five local building supplies and hardware store without any luck. There was Le-Page Marine adhesive available in Home Depot but that one in NOT recommended for below waterline use :(

Polysulfides lead the way for underwater use. 5200 seems to go everywhere, though.

Enjoy !

I thought for sure I saw 5200 at Canadian Tire the other day in the boating section. Maybe it was just 4200 but worth checking.

If it were me, I'd be loading up yet another tube of PL Premium. :)

Boatlife caulk is also polysulfide.

PL Premium is great glue but it doesn't stick to plastics and leaves ugly finish.

Well I've got some plastic here that would disagree with you on that. :D
Like with all adhesives, the type and prep of plastic is key. It is ugly though; I had assumed that this was a hidden application. I didn't mean to imply one should apply it like a caulk.

I tried to glue ABS and PVC with it and the glue won't handle any stress...it just peels off the surface.
