Marine Toilet

The manual Jabsco toilet in my boat fills with water and stuff, after the lever is switched to the no water in the bowl position. I have a manual pump model that lets water in the bowl when switched to the left, and it's supposed to stop the water when switched to the right. Water and waste fills the bowl. Are there some seals that are bad? What gives? Any help would be great.

I am by no means an expert, but I have struggled with a similar toilet that clogged up this summer.<br /><br />After flipping that lever, the pump will normally still give some water for a few strokes before it goes dry. If the intake of water doesn't stop, you may need to change that lever mechanism.<br /><br />For each stroke the pump should also empty some from the bowl. If the bowl doesn't empty, the pump itself or the outlet hose could be clogged, the holding tank could be full, or the outlet valve could be closed.<br /><br />If the internal pump gaskets and seals are worn or torn, these may easily be replaced. Complete gasket replacement kits or other parts seem to be widely available.

Thanks for the reply. After pondering tearing the thing apart and putting in new seals and gaskets for $50 to $60, then having a 14 year old head in my boat, I ordered a new one shipped to my house for $155. Un-bolt and bolt back on seemed to be the way to go.

I guess your problem is solved then. But on mine, if the holding tank got over a certain amount full, then it would backflow into the head. It sounds like this might have been happening to you. If the problem was the fill/empty switch, then you wouldn't have had waste filling up the bowl. <br />I replaced the joker valve, part number 32 in this diagram<br /> http://www.jabsco.com/prodInfo/overview/29090-2000_ev.pdf <br />The one that was in there was warped and allowing the waste to flow back into the head. The replacement solved my problem and was a very minimal mess to clean up the installation. The pump assemblies on these are very easy to take apart and diagnose what is going on.
