Mariner 100 with Quiksilver control questions

I have some questions on how my Quiksilver controls are supposed to work. Currently it is a bit stiff when it goes to open the throttle. My first thought was it is the cable, but Im not so sure. Im thinking its more to do with the control. Just my guess at this point. Im thinking on tearing it apart to see whats on the inside of it, and how it all works. I have backed off the front tension adjustment, but it doesnt seem to make it easier enough. Just how smooth should the control be, when moving it forward?

I also would like to know how the control is supposed to work . It has a lever that says its for fast idle. If i pull it up it will do a fast idle. But, the idle wont go back down unless I first lower the lever, and then put it into gear and then back to neutral. Is this normal operation for the fast idle? I dont see how it sets a fast idle? If I look at the engine I dont see what its doing to make a fast idle. See Pictures.

What is the purpose of the "RUN" toggle switch. It has cover over it, and I cant even get at it to flip it to the "OFF" position.

If I push the key in while turning it over it is supposedly the choke. That does seem to work, but I dont see where the choke is , on the engine. Is it electric? And do I have to keep pushing it in(I do now) or is it just push once for on/off of the choke?

Is it advisable to splice into the Trim up/down switch, to put another switch nearer to the back of the boat. It would be more helpful, for raising and lowering the engine when loading/unloading from the trailer, to attach the transom saver.

Re: Mariner 100 with Quiksilver control questions

I took the control off the side of the boat. I noticed the lever was a lot smoother. It seemed to be pinched up against the side off the boat. I put a wood spacer between it and the boat. it operates much better now. I may change the cable anyway, as it probably needs a new one.

I also found in the online service manual, how to adjust the cables at the engine. They were a bit sloppy, now they are tightened up.

One other thing I would like to add. It would be nice to operate the throttle without engaging the drive unit. I seem to recall an older boat I had years ago could do this by pressing a button which would allow the throttle to operate without engaging the drive. Is this possible with this quicksilver unit?
