Mariner 150hp idle & wiring question

I am helping a friend work on his boat. It is a 150hp mariner 1970's - 1980's model with oil injection. The boat was sitting for 2 years, so we drained the fuel and put new fuel in. We also replaced the spark plugs. Do we need to change the oil for the oil injection as well?

When it is idling, a constant beeping alarm goes off and then the engine will shut off. If it has a little bit of throttle (1000 rpm), the motor runs fine and the beeping goes away. From what I could find, the beeping is for low oil, but the oil resevoir on the engine is full.

Also, there are some wires going into the flywheel. One of the wires is broken and the other has the copper showing. The wire broke right as it goes into the flywheel and I do not know if there is enough left wire on one end to connect them back together. Can anybody tell me what this does? I have a picture below and the wires are outlined by the red circle.

Also, I could not find out anything from the serial number (0A980764). Can anybody tell me how to read the number to find the specs on the engine?

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Mariner 150hp idle & wiring question

Thanks Gerry for providing the serial / model number information.

I forgot to mention. We first took the boat out with the old gas. It idled fine with the old gas, but when we got on the throttle in the water, the boat would just bog down and wouldn't really take off. We thought it might have had something to do with the old gas, that is why we changed it in the first place. After we changed the gas out, that is when we started having the idle problems.

Thanks,
Dave
