I have a 2000 Mariner 15hp and am not exactly sure where the lower unit water intake is, so that I can put earmuffs on it. Wondering if anyone has drawings or advice on where it is, so that I don't seize the engine? Thank you.

I think the water intake on the 15hp and below is behind the prop. not sure you can use muffs. normally a large garbage barrel. water must be at least 8-10" above the split in the case.

Thanks so much for the reply, and I agree that filling a barrel with water is probably the best thing to do! I found a special flushing kit for Mercury/Mariner that looks like it hooks under the cavitation plate, but I'm going to opt for the safe method, so thanks for the help!!!
