Mariner 20 HP 1985, sometimes it runs and sometimes not

Hi Guys,<br /><br /> I need some help about my mariner 20 hp 1985, Sometimes when we crank it 3 times it start and runs very well. Others times we crank it many many times and nothing happened. we proceed always the same way but we don't know why it does that. So on 10 times it will start well 6 times on will refuse 4 times to start when we crank it. Do you have any ideas about that and what we will be supposed to do to avoid that problem. I'm waiting for your opinions if you are able to help me.<br /><br /> Lyse

Mornin' Lyse,<br /><br />Can you offer some history on the motor?<br />How was it preped for (winter) storage?<br /><br />You might consider a carb rebuild. These things gum up pretty easily if they are not maintained.<br />Possibly, pull the flywheel and confirm condition of ignition components (coils, wires, etc.)<br /><br />Let us know what you find.<br />There are a bunch of folks here that can assist if they have enough info to work from.<br /><br />Good Luck<br />Have FUN!
