Mariner 25C with yamaha made engine

Missing VIN on Mariner 25 hp given to me. No spark is the second problem.
Yamaha logo numbered 69501 Y2 cast on head. F280 CDI 404 6 stamped on flywheel.
There are part numbers on the CDI unit and Coil packs.
Where to start my troubleshooting?
Help please. Martin

Does it have the single coil with 2 spark plug wires or 2 separate coils one for each cylinder?

One Coil , with 2 sparkplug leads.

Disconnect the stop switch to see if shorted first.

i have disconnected the "stop switch" wire, made fairly sure wire connections are "connected" with no spark yet. Thru question and answer and photo comparision my motor is estimated to be a 1988 25 C Mercury Mariner ,powerhead stamped by manafacturer, Yamaha.

After my visits to this site, I had to make some 'field' surveys to get some real help.
Let it be known......... The Serial number of a Mariner 25 hp IS THE SAME AS THE NUMBER ON THE FREEZE PLUG!!
If other owners will check to confirm this it will be MOST useful to other people !!
This may be true for other models and manufacturers as well!
