Is it easily possible to convert a 2003 Mariner 3.3 long shaft to a short shaft?

Easily with the correct parts. If the midsection has a removable housing spacer(5"), you would need a shorter shift shaft, water tube and driveshaft$$$. Or. sell the motor and get a short shaft motor. Curious, why did you get such a new motor, when it is not the one you need for your application? I don't even show a Long Shaft listed in that small of HP anyway. Sure it's not a short shaft now??

Hi Rick<br />Thanks for the reply. Bought the motor as a back up but, now am going to use on the 'tender'. Such is life. I thought that as the housing had a 5" extention, the shafts etc may be similarly extended and could be adapted. No Probs, will raise the transom on the tender.

Why convert? I run a 9.9 ho long shaft on a 12' al skiff and it runs just fine - will get the wife & I up on a plane. It may not fit the mold of the way things should be done but it works.

Thanks for that. Is it ok to run a long shaft on a short transom for short periods? I am not worried about trim but do not want to damage the engine.

See my earlier post - I run a long shaft motor on a short shaft transome - no problem.

For best performance, fuel economy and safety the cavitation (spelling?!?) plate should be inline with the hull.
