I am working on a 70 HP mariner and it runs like a champ, unfortunately it would not shift out of forward, I removed the lower unit and the lower drive shaft (horizontal) there is no spring load pushing the center clutch rod out, should there be? and if as I have read you turn the shift rod (it seems it should only travel up and down) because turning it clockwise you can actually unscrew the cam at the end. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also the is there anyway to engage the power trim without the controls even on the stand I can only get a clicking noise when I ground the motor and apply power to either or both on the leads from the cylinder pump.
