Hello,

I have a 1994 Mariner 60hp 3cyl 2stroke which has tell tale problems. I hope some one can help.

The engine was running fine, over wintered it and came to use it and the tell tale wasnt working.
This is what i have done so far.

Checked and changed impellor
New popet valve and thermostat
checked pipe work out and cant find blockages.
Tried running the engine without thermostat and popet valve with no change

Any suggestions greatly apprciated

Thanks
Martyn

did you make sure the water tube is all the way in at the bottom of the powerhead and also in the lower unit?

Is the engine moving water while running at all? If on a hose, do you see water running out of the prop hub? You need to be sure the motor is pumping water before you can be sure your issue is something wrong with the tell tale. As a side note, there are insects that love to build nests in the tell tale hoses. Make sure that the hose is clear.

water does not come out of the prop but at the front near the engine moutings.

I thought this is where it dumps water

if the rubber mout under the block was missing would this cause these problems

Water should be exiting through gearcase past prop shaft. A missing mount or seal could contribute to seeing water coming out from out front, but it shouldn't be doing that at all. I would drop the gearcase again and make sure you got the water tube plugged into the water pump when you reassembled it. I'm kinda' wondering if this isn't the case and the pump is just blasting water up into the exhaust housing, and not though the water tube. Maybe this is why you are seeing water from in front of the motor.
