Anybody know where i can find a wiring diagram for
MARINER 80HP A8056624
i think the engine controller might ave been changed because i have downloaded wiring diagram for 80hp
and the wiring dont match the diagram by 1 wire, i have 7 on the plug wiring harness and 6 pins on the plug so one was
doubling up ,i cut the plug off because the wiring to the engine was had it.
i took photos the wiring was so bad i cant tell what color the wires are
in the photo i hooked up what i thought was right but im not getting a start or any power to the starter unless i connect
wire from main battery power to red wire at rectifier ,now i remember and i can see by the old photo that their is only 1 wire
to the + rectifier and it looks red so its a bit of a mess
any help with this would be Awesome
Thanks
Tza

Merc used a single plug for both the older battery ignition and the newer ADI ignitions. That is likely why the pins didn't match. On your ADI ignition, you should have red for +12VDC, black for ground, black/yellow for ign killer, yellow/black for choke, yellow/red for starter solenoid, grey for tach signal, purple for ign accessory.

You can get a new engine wiring harness lots of places on the web. They are about $100.

Hey Chris Thanks for replying to my post
the wires on my plug are ( 2 red 1 going to battery and solinoid thick wire battery , the thin red to rectifier , 2 black 1 thick going to battery , then starter as earth
1 thin black going where i dont know!
then we have brown , yellow , , grey , tan , orange so thats 7 wires not counting the red and black to battery
i have attached photo of plug with serial no:84-73369
so i am still confused about where what color goes where on solinoid , rectifier , mercury switch etc
Thanks
Tza

OK you have the old wiring colors. Not an issue.

Brown is tach signal wire. It connects to one of the yellow wires at the rectifier.

Yellow is starter solenoid wire. It provides power to the solenoid when ign key is in start position.

Grey is choke solenoid

Tan is likely overheat wire. Check for overheat sensor on cylinder head water jacket

Orange is ign killer wire. It will go to switchbox to kill spark when ign switch is off

The thin black wire is likely the ground on the starter solenoid primary winding.

Thin red to rectifier is correct.

White wire is probably not used as you do not need ign accessory power at your motor.
