Mariner ID and Lower Unit

I have a 40 HP Mariner- 40 EL 6E9 L 423576 Can anyone confirm this is a 1986?

I have lower unit water intrusion. I pressure tested the lower unit and it failed to hold 10 psi. While re-filling with gear oil, it leaked out the water pickup areas and out the prop hub.

Looking at the price of parts and labor, I am wondering if finding a good used lower unit on ebay may be cheaper.

Can anyone tell me what lower units may be compatible? Also if I am looking for seal kits will they be Yamaha or Merc parts?

I would tear it apart first and find the leak, then you know what the parts/seals look like to order and fix it.
Lower units are difficult and complicated need special tools, if you have $ for a lower unit I would buy it.
But still tear it apart first in case its an easy fix.
