I have an 87 Mariner 90HP 3 cyl oil injected motor project boat. The lower unit shifts really hard and upon removing and draining the oil there was quite abit of metal filings in the oil(no water). I don't seem to be able to get the unit apart so I just ordered a repair manual I don't want to break something. I am very handy and have many tools or can make/buy special ones if needed. If I can't repair this one is there a website where I can find out what units will fit this motor? There are many different ones for sale of various hp and year and I'm sure some are probably interchangeable. Thanks ahead of time for any help. Its 22 degrees, windy and snowing here this morning in the Catskill Mts. of New York, good weather for working on a boat!

If you need a unit the ones that will be a direct replacement are a 1987-1996 70/75/80/90 hp. The 1997 and up willalso work but you will need to change shift shaft...
