Hi gents.<br />I'm more of a fisherman than a boater but need your help with my outboard. I have a MAriner Magnum 10Hp 2-stroke, know very little about outboards but urgently need to service this thing as I use it most in the winter...Now! I can't find the engine number, serial number or model number. I suppose I need these before I can think of buying a manual. I don;t even have aclue what year it is. I found a small sticker on the side of the transom clamp which had been tampered with and is now only showing the last three numbers which are; 453 and it's made in Belgium. Can anyone tell me what to do? Can anyone tell me what is involved in a service? gear oil change...How? Plugs, - type, gap, water pump impeller replacement - how? It's a bit late now but there is a memorial fishing competition on Sunday and I was hoping to have the service done for then. Later will have to suffice. I'm reading this and it seems like an impossible question(s) Are there any super wizards out there who can solve my problems for me? Or at least confirm that I'm crazy for posting such silly and impossible questions?..Should I just Purchase an extra set of oars.!!!
Welcome to iboats.<br /><br />The first three numbers would've helped more. If you remove the cover, you might find an aluminum welch plug somewhere on the powerhead that has the serial number stamped on it. Since it was made in Belgium, I think we can assume it's not a Yamaha-made Mariner.<br /><br />You might try your public library for manuals. Most of them over here in the States seem to have them. They would be the best source for the water pump procedures. Sparkplugs should be the same as what's in there, but it sounds like your motor isn't used alot, so check them first. It usually takes a lot of years of average use to wear those out.<br /><br />Gearlube I can help you with. Remove the top vent screw first, then remove the bottom drain plug and drain it out. Refill from the bottom until it comes out the top. That size motor will take less than a pint. Put the top screw in first, then the bottom one. Have plenty of rags handy. It's a messy job no matter how quick you are with those plugs.
