I am almost done resurecting a Mariner magnum 40. I replaced all of the eletronics: Stator, trigger, power pack, rectifier. Now I am ready to put the flywheel back on and time the beast.
I know I have to use a timing light on the number 1 cyl to check the timing. My question is where do I start when putting the flywheel back on? My manual does not mention this part.
Do I set the number 1 cyl to TDC and then line the flywheel markings up on the 0 degree mark? From there can I check the timing and adjust as needed? The manual says I need to be at 30 degrees BTDC at max advance and 2-3 ATDC at idle. I have never timed a CDI motor so any help on how to initially set the flywheel is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Allen
