i have been reading these forums on repairs and such, i need a little help now, i have a mariner magnum 40hp the serial number is 0G053589 i can't find any repair info online anywhere, the two small holes on the lower unit near the top, just below the plate on the front side of the motor, oil is leaking out of it and running down the unit. when i put the boat in the water of course the oil floats on top, it just started, i assume the oil is coming form the lower unit. i drained the oil out it was milky looking, and replaced with fresh oil, what might be the cause? is there a website i can go to and get info like the specs for the year and such for this motor by the serial num. maybe a parts list or something, any help would be great, thanks jason

Pictures? Most likely Exhaust residue. Smell the "oil";Smell gassy or like Gear lube?
The milky gear lube is an indication of bad seals or leaky vent and drain screws. You should replace the gaskets on them with each lube change.
Seals are on the prop shaft, drive shaft and and shift rod.Your not likely to find a manual on line.Sometimes they have them at the library.there are some here at Iboats among other places on line.Factory manuals are usually most complete.A manual is a real time and frustration saver.
Its not to inviromentally friendly but you could run it as is check it after and hour or so run time if not too severe you could just change the lube more often.
