the only reason i can think it may not be worth 5000 is because it's a 2-stroke and a little dated, i'm looking to spend between 4-5000...thanks guys

I live just across the border from you and I too, would think it is too pricy, even for B.C. Look at the zincs and they will give you an idea as to how much salter water time it had seen. I would think $2500 tops. The motor is not worth much at that age. I have an 89 200 Merc and I was told it would be worth $1500 tops for trade while it is running. So that is not saying much as far as helping you out.

I am not a whaler fan, but a 17 foot whaler of any age in average condition with a 150hp running engine and trailer goes for $8 grand or better!

A 20 year similar boat of any other brand brings $2 grand tops.

In my area (on the coast 40 miles east of Orlando, Fl) a 1985 150 Mariner has an avg book value of about $600 and an 85 17' BW has a book of under $2000. Believe it or not, these are everyday prices here. I recently looked at an early 17'BW for $3500 with and old 60hp Yamaha motor and trailer. The rig sat on a boat lot for at least a month before it sold. Condition was ok but not perfect.
