Re: mariner outboard

Please don't take this definitively, because it's a "best guess".
I can't find anything with a 689-I, but a standard ML with 689 329334 appears to be a 1986 Japanese Mariner ML 30 HP.

Sorry I cannot provide anything definite. Kinda hard to find stuff on the Japanese motors. I know...I have two myself.

Re: mariner outboard

ringo111,

The Japanese Mariners are made by Yamaha for Mariner. Essentially they are Yamaha outboards, and they are pretty durn good. They run fast and sure won't disappoint!
The only issue you might have with one is getting certain parts is next to impossible. Generally, routine maintanance parts such as carb parts, fuel pump, water pump, ect. are readily available. However things like lower unit gears, pistons, shift levers, ect. are usually discontinued and NLA items. (Of course, if one needs these type parts...one generally scraps the motor and gets a new one).
You can get parts from Mercury, or from Yamaha. Generally Yamaha's prices are way cheaper. A water pump kit from Mercury may cost $89, but the same kit from Yamaha costs $39.
I'd say if the lower unit and powerhead are in good shape...go for it.
