Hello everyone, I am a new post to this sight but I have been reading most of the messages posted here. Most of the questions on the VRO topic deal with OMC. Any comments on Mariner? I am running a 1994 Mariner 115. I am thinking of disconnting it. Can I disconnect like it has been suggested in past post for OMC?
Thanks!!

Re: Mariner VRO removel help

Yes, you can! I'm not familiar with the electrics part of disconneting it, but you would plug off the oil intake from the tank at the motor, remove wires from the oil tank and remove tank. As far as the other electrics that you would have to remove, so that you do not get low oil horns all the time and such, I'm sure someone here can fiil you in on that part of it. I know how to do Johnson and rudes, but Mariner, I'm not familiar with. A manual might tell you how or call a Mariner dealer if all else fails, and ask them! one last thing, I have not heard any bad things about the Mariner VRO, so if you maintain it, it may last forever!

You also might want to change you topic to:"Mariner VRO removal Help", Under the "edit Post" section, in your first post! You may get more replys!

Re: Mariner VRO removel help

G'day. First VRO is a system only used by Johnson and evinrude. The system is very unreliable, it uses vacuum pulses to move a rubber diaphragm and that pumps the oil. All other motor brands use a mechanical pump thet does not give trouble.
Your mariner does not have a VRO but has a mechanical pump, I would suggest that you continue to use it.
