MarineTex Epoxy paste???

Anyone here have experience with MarineTex??? I mixed some up on Sat evening & applied it in a few spots on the boat hull>>>some thin coats over gelcoat chips & some a bit heavier in the area around the drain tube in the transome (1/2" x 3/4"). <br />As of Tuesday Evening, its still to soft to sand>>it would just ball up.<br />The instructions said it should cure in 24 hrs, and that it can be machined???<br />It also stated that it could be colored with Evercoat tinting agents>>>which I did. Could that be causing the slow cure??? Should I have added more hardner because of the tinting???(didn't say anything in the instructions) Does it just take longer to FULLY HARDEN???<br />ANY SUGGETIONS>>>I can't use the boat until I get the drain tube area fixxed & reinstall the tube.<br /> <br />Thanks <br />Jim

Give it some heat like a par lightbulb for a few hours. Was the marine-tex old?

I have worked with the stuff for years and have never had a bad batch, but there is always a first...mix up a batch without the tint and see if it kicks off...

I would try mixing the putty and the catalyst together. I would go light on the catalyst because it can delay the drying time of the marine tex paste. The stuff does really work good.

Jim - Been using the stuff for years. It is on my list of miracle products & it will cure under water!! I suspect that you were a little lite on the catalyst. Be careful going the other way though..

I must chime in and say this stuff is awsome. I've used it to fill in a hole that would sink my boat in no time and this stuff has held up and I think is stronger than the original material it is bonded to. Also, not a drop has leaked through the repair either and I have done nothing to paint it or tint it or whatever to seal it - just applied it, let it dry, and went boating.

Thanks Guys,<br />I cleaned it all out, and wiped the areas with acetone. Remixxed without the tinting & reapplied>>>Worked great for filling in the void in the transome drain area (after transome rebuild, had slight void at bottom of transome- hull joint). I have to agree>>>great product! Sands well, and it machined/drilled well also.<br />Thanks again!!
