Mark 58/58A - Choke linkage

Two questions about the choke setup on a Mark 58/58A...

I've started calling a 58/58A because I've finally concluded that this is a Mark 58 with a Mark 58A top cowl. So, the questions:

1. Should there be a spring on the bottom of the choke linkage to counteract the solenoid? Doesn't seem like gravity and airflow through the (Tillotson) carbs would be enough, and there looks to be an anchor point on the lower carb.

2. Anyone have a picture or diagram of the manual linkage for a Mark 58? Looks like I'm going to have to make modifications: From what I can tell, the manual choke knob was further aft on the Mark 58 top cowl. I'm hoping I can just heat up the top rod between the choke-lever pivot and the first bend and simply rotate it about 90-degrees counterclockwise (seen from above).

Hi,

Yes there should be a return springs.

That rod is pretty brittle. I may just drill a new hole in the cover.

Thanks guys,

I'm not two worried about the frangibility of the rod: I'll heat it with the OA torch to bend, and if it breaks I have plenty of material to fab a new one.
