my buddy Mark told me his story. he is a life long boater.
He was thinking of buying a 15ft 1970's Terry bass boat with a 50HP Johnson OB from one of his friends. The Buddy says boat runs great. Buddy backs down the ramp with Mark operating the boat. It starts up great- puts in reverse- backs off the trailer no problem.:D then time to put the motor in forward gear.
as Mark told it - the shifter went from reverse- neutral- to WIDE FULL OPEN FORWARD in about 1 inch of throttle movment. As the boat is jumping out the water onto the ramp he jerks back on the throttle and the whole control box pulls off in his hand still running WIDE OPEN. He had his wits enough to turn the key off but only the prop is in the water.
Its a heavy old 1970 bass boat sitting on the ramp but after several of the bystanders get up from off the ground from laughing they pick her up and get the boat floating.
Needless to say he passed on that one!

With freinds like that...who needs enemies?!?

I would have low balled him at that point. OK, I'll give you $500 for the boat, you throw in what's left of the motor.:D
